This paper presents a modeling of coil for real-time simulation of coil embolization procedure. By considering the characteristics of the actual coil, a virtual coil model is composed of serially-connected 3Dbeams. A stiffness matrix is constructed using the 3D-beam theory. A mass matrix is constructed by variational formulation and HRZ(Hinton, Rock, and Zienkiewicz) lumping scheme. Internal force is represented using a stiffness matrix, rotation matrix, and the initial and the current positions. The implicit method is used to solve the dynamic equations to guarantee stability of the model. The effect of initial angle-configuration is also considered to treat various initial shapes of the coil.
