In tunnel-junction arrays having two branches from the source and the drain electrodes, the secondary Coulomb blockade gap is observed in addition to the usual Coulomb blockade gap, and the tunneling processes which lead to and destroy the secondary gap are analyzed. The stability of the standing charge configurations that are responsible for the secondary gap is also addressed.
