Sound absorbing materials, which are conventionally used for making quieter space, are well suited for high frequency noise control. It is, therefore, particularly interest if we can have sound absorbing structure that performs well for low frequency noise. We propose to use a Helmholtz resonator array for this purpose. This paper discusses the sound absorption of Helmholtz resonator array panels at normal and random incidence. First, various experimental results are introduced and studied. Secondly, based on the experimental results, we propose a model that can predict reasonably well the 2-D resonator panel’s absorption characteristics. We believe that this model can be used to design a panel for low frequency noise control.-
