In ubiquitous environment, providing seamless multimedia services to mobile nodes is one of the critical requirements. However, the effects of mobility make it difficult to achieve seamless QoS guarantee. Most of researches have focused on the solutions for problems using RSVP which has significant shortcomings to deploy. Recently, IETF NSIS protocol has been proposed as a strong alternative of RSVP, but its applicability is not completely validated in mobile Internet. This paper proposes a new solution with advance reservation scheme using Layer 2 information. The proposed solution can detect crossover node (CRN) and reserve network resources along the new path before the mobile node’s handoff so that the latency of session re-establishment is minimized. Only a few modifications to the current NSIS protocol are required in our approach. Our experimental results show that the proposed approach can provide seamless QoS guarantee of multimedia services such as video streaming in mobile Internet.
