An enpirical study on the effect of entrepreneurs' characteristics on the initial performances of the IT venture companies

Abstract

The main objective of this research is to verify the effect of entrepreneurs`` characteristics, which can be categorized into demographic and psychological characteristics, on the initial performances of the IT venture companies and to find significant success factors of IT venture business. A survey was conducted to collect data from IT venture companies residing in business incubators. As a result, among demographic characteristics, only age was related to sales amount. Among psychological characteristics, need for achievement and risk-taking propensity were related to the sales amount and the entrepreneur``s satisfaction while locus of control was related only to the sales amount. This research provides an implication that the entrepreneur``s psychological characteristics are more related to the initial performance of IT venture companies than the entrepreneur``s demographic characteristics.
