dc.description.abstract | The autonomous vehicle’s advancement emphasizes the importance of design from the user’s perspectivebecause user experience changes from driver to being driven. Therefore, end-users should be invitedto the early design phase to envision, understand, and present appropriate plausible and preferabledesign. But, the current design method cannot fully encompass the not-yet-experienced interaction ofthe autonomous vehicle. It is also challenging to implement and test real-scale prototypes with limitedtechnology and resources. This study aims to explore and develop a supporting design system for designing in-car interaction of an autonomous vehicle. This thesis presents the projected AR co-creationsystem, a design prototyping system in actual vehicle scaled interactive space specifically for a vehicleusing AR sketch and building blocks. The projected AR co-creation system supports rapid construction, test, iteration, and concretization of design in space through a collaborative design environment.Therefore, both the designer and the user can co-create new design concepts of the in-car space throughvisualizing and materializing their ideas using the projected AR co-creation system. The co-creationsession evaluated the system with designers and end-users. From user study, the projected AR cocreation system can support the concretizing diverse design of in-car interaction through easy designand agile, iterative design with stakeholders. And it also helps an effective collaborative design processfor intuitive user experience through real-time prototype experience and multiple viewpoints in actualvehicle scaled space. This thesis contributes to developing the projection AR co-creation system, foundvalues and impacts of the projected AR co-creation system through a user study, and discussed futureissues and improvement points. | - |
