In this paper, we propose the design of Mobile High-Definition Link (HDMI) 2.1 connector for crosstalk reduction using tabs and inverse tabs (i-tabs). We analyzed the capacitance between the HDMI differential pins, and based on this, we designed the receptacle pin using tabs and i-tabs. The i-tabs are used to reduce crosstalk between victim differential line and aggressor differential lines. The tabs are used to reduce the increased impedance as the capacitance is reduced by the i-tabs. Furthermore, the tabs are further improved crosstalk and differential insertion loss. For verification, we compared time domain reflectometry (TDR) impedance, attenuation to crosstalk ratio (ACR), and differential insertion loss between the default design, idea1 design which only reduces the mutual capacitance between differential lines using i-tabs, and the proposed design. The proposed design using tabs and i-tabs achieved all improvements in crosstalk, impedance, and insertion loss compared to the default design.
