Due to the trend of replacing mechanical parts to electrical parts, vehicle electrification is steadily increasing. Especially, modern vehicle powertrains have been changed to electric motor systems, which are electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). The main differences between several electric vehicles and previous combust vehicles are electric motors. Electric motors have been used in various vehicle applications, especially as a power source for EVs and HEVs. As a result, the motor drive system (MDS) in EVs/HEVs has become a new noise source because switching frequency, operation voltage and current variations have been increased, causing undesirable effects such as common mode (CM) noise and radio frequency interference (RFI). Since each component of MDS contains the parasitic impedances, which affect the CM noise, CM return current paths and RFI. Such CM noise and RFI raise safety and reliability issues in vehicle system. Hence, the analysis of the noise propagation paths is necessary for understanding the improving the system reliability. In this paper, hybrid modeling method of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) is proposed to predict and analyze the CM current effects. The proposed motor model is verified by measurements in real vehicle system also it has been applied to full-vehicle RFI simulation methods and verified by measurements too.
