In this thesis, characteristics analysis and modeling for millimeter-wave (mmWave) band channels are discussed based on the extensive channel measurements at 28 GHz. First, a channel sounder for 28 GHz channel measurements is proposed and developed. The proposed channel sounder allows to obtain a synthesized omni-directional power delay profile (PDP) from the measurement system using directional antennas. Using this proposed channel sounder, we carried out extensive channel measurements in various different environments. Then, propagation path parameterization and analysis of the propagation channels is discussed. In particular, a modified version of the conventional high-resolution algorithms has been proposed and verified to estimate the transmitting and receiving angles more precisely. By using the proposed algorithm which exploits information of the antenna pattern, it is possible to overcome limitations of the beamwidth and rotation angle of the antenna and to classify the propagation paths accurately. Furthermore, a mmWave channel model which reflects the channel characteristics of mmWave bands is developed based on our measurement results at 28 GHz. Finally, the propagation properties of the mmWave bands in vegetated areas of typical residential environments were discussed by analyzing our measurement results.
