dc.description.abstract | Sensitivity and dynamic range is trade-off characteristic in sensor design. Stereocilia. To overcome trade-off between sensitivity and dynamic range, we proposed biomimetic sensing mechanism inspired by stereocilia which known to have high sensitivity over broad dynamic range. The mechanism of stereocilia is not clear, but stereocilia is known to achieve high sensitivity and broad dynamic range using negative stiffness and adaptation mechanism. We develop the mechanical stereocilia model which contain the negative stiffness and adaptation mechanism to explain how stereocilia amplifying the small signal and reset the continuous signals. Three stereocilia bundles are pivoted on bottom and connected by spring called tip-link. The stereocilia bundles are manufactured using 3D printer. Negative stiffness mechanism of stereocilia which caused by bistabitlity structure of mechanotranceduser is mimicked using magnetic force. Adaptation mechanism which caused by myosin motor to adjust tip-link tension is mimicked using motor control. Stereocilia bundle model shows the amplifying for the small signal and reset the continuous signal using adaptation mechanism. | - |
