A numerical study of liquid transfer between two
separating walls is carried out for modeling gravureoffset
printing process. Printing was modeled by
liquid transfer between two parallel separating plates
and between a trapezoidal cavity and an upward
moving plate. The governing equations are solved by
the finite volume method and volume of fluid method
incorporating with the structured grid and grid
deformation technology. Influences of the separation
velocity, the gravity force, the liquid viscosity, the
surface tension and the contact angles on the liquid
transfer are estimated. Effects of the contact angles
at both the cavity side wall and the upper plate, the
initial distance between the cavity and the upper plate,
and the cavity shape are also discussed.
