In this paper, we investigate the liquid transfer
process to increase the ink transfer rate in gravure
offset printing through the experiment and numerical
method. In the experiment, EWOD device used for
making various contact angles on a plate surface. The
ink transfer rate between two parallel separating
plates was measured according to the various contact
angles. Numerical analysis based on the VOF method,
was carried out and compared with the experimental
results. The ink transfer process takes place two
times in gravure offset printing. For making the
highest transfer rate, the contact angles of each plate
were discussed. It can contribute to the design of the
optimal contact angle of the plate roll, offset roll, and
substrate for gravure offset printing.
