One of the major problems limiting the accuracy of piezoelectric transducers for performing in-cylinder pressure measurements in IC engine is thermal shock. The formulation of error compensation using the actual pressure data for reducing the errors was derived at the previous stage. Thermal shock was subsequently evaluated in a gasoline engine under different operational conditions. The results indicate that the thermal shock equation provides reliable correction based on known surface temperature swing. Analysis of a large set of results enabled development of correlation for the correction of calculated IMEP values directly from speed and pressure measurement.
