Laboratory and field study were conducted to enhance the generation of landfill gas (LFG) by injecting the leachate generated from food waste recycling facilities (shortly food waste leachate (FWL)), which also could be an economical way of treating FWL. Laboratory experimental results showed that it was necessary to dilute with landfill leachate (LFL) to increase the moisture content up to 98% for the stable injection of FWL into landfill. By the injection of 53.4 ton of FWL into the active landfill, additional 2,600 m3 of LFG was extracted, which was more than estimated amount of methane generation. This result was partly caused by leachate recirculation, which was used to dilute FWL. Electrical resistivity survey showed vertical distribution of injected wastewater. Therefore, horizontal trench would be a better method for FWL injection than vertical well.
