Direct evanescent coupling between a photonic crystal microcavity and a tapered optical fiber is investigated. The photonic crystal cavity is modified to meet the conditions of efficient modal overlap with the optical fiber. With this modified linear resonator, the coupling strength is increased by a factor of 2.3 and a high-Q of 26,000 is achieved. It is found that similar to 84 % of the photons generated inside the cavity can be funneled into the tapered fiber.
