Ruthenium(M) complexes of the type [RuX2(L ')(EPh3)(2)] and [RuX(LL ')(EPh3)] (where, X=Cl or Br; E=P or As; L '-Schiff base ligand 1 [S-benzyl-,beta-N-(methyl,acetyl)methylenedithiocarbazate], LL '-Schiff base ligand 6 [Bis(S-benzyl-,beta-N-(methyl)methylenedithlocarbazate]) has been synthesized by the reactions of [RuX3(EPh3)(3)] or [RuBr3 (PPh3)(2)(MeOH)] with appropriate Schiff bases in 1:1 molar ratio. The Schiff base ligands (1 and 6) were prepared by condensing S-benzyldithiocarbazate (NH2NHCSSCH2C6H5) with 2,3-butanedione (1: 1 and 1: 2 molar ratio). Complexes have been characterized, by analytical, spectroscopic (IR, UV-Visible, and EPR) and Cyclic voltammetric methods. The ruthenium(III) complexes are paramagnetic and an octahedral structure has been tentatively proposed for all the new complexes. Catalytic activity of these complexes has been explored by means of a probe reaction of the acetaldehyde with H2O2. The ligands and the complexes were screened for antimicrobial activity against four organisms.-
