A new multiclass rate control method for real-time voice traffic transmission in packet networks is proposed. The class for rate control is defined according to the requested voice quality. In the proposed control mechanism, a source coding rate is adjusted based on network feedback information and class type. It is shown that, using the proposed method, multiple voice qualities can be supported without voice quality degradation in traffic with low priority.
