The feasibility of a 10Gbit/s/channel WDM network is experimentally demonstrated using dynamic gain-controlled EDFAs that suppress the surviving channel power transients in themselves without the use of a link control channel. The authors have successfully transmitted one surviving channel without power penalty over 80km DSF when seven out of eight channels are added/dropped at 1 kHz.
