Chaotic one-dimensional harmonic oscillator

We present one of the simplest systems that exhibit resonance overlap and chaos: a nonrelativistic one-dimensional simple harmonic oscillator driven by a space-time varying force. The theoretical study of nonlinear resonances can be carried out analytically using second-order canonical perturbation theory.
