Optical absorption spectra of HgGa2-xInxSe4 : Co2+(0.0 less-than-or-equal-to X less-than-or-equal-to 2.0) single crystals grown by the chemical transport reaction method have been measured in the visible and infrared regions. The observed absorption spectra are attributed to the Co2+ ion in the tetrahedral coordination of the HgGa2-xInxSe4 host lattice and analyzed on the basis of crystal-field theory along with spin-orbit coupling consideration.
