In MPEG-21 Multimedia Framework, it is possible to realize the universal access and consumption of the multimedia contents under the various types of terminal and network environments in many different communities. This thesis presents a study on a video summarization service framework based on MPEG-21 Digital Item Adaptation and Digital Item Processing. In order to provide various kinds of video summary contents, we adopted the MPEG-21 Digital Item Processing for processing and manipulating as a Digital Item the video summary contents. Also, in order to allow for universal access to the video summary contents from any user terminal, we utilized the MPEG-21 Digital Item Adaptation standard in conjunction with the MPEG-21 Digital Item Processing part.
In this thesis, for personalized consumption of video summary, we developed a personalization model based on MPEG-7 User History and User Preference Description Schemes with an extraction method of user preference from user``s usage history on contents and used it for Digital Item suggestion. In this model, the user``s timely changing preferences are automatically updated. As a video summary service framework, we firstly integrated the MPEG-21 DIP and DIA frameworks and incorporated an IPMP (Intellectual Property Management and Protection) model to control to access a specific part of a Digital Item in MPEG-21 DIP.
We implemented a framework of the video summary service based on MPEG-21 DIP and DIA, and MPEG-7 MDS as well. We found out that the proposed framework based on MPEG-21 DIP and DIA is feasible and effective for video summary service applications.
