A novel received signal strength indicator (RSSI) with wide dynamic range and low power consumption for DVB-T/H (Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial/Handheld) application and a cascode harmonic rejection mixer (HRM) for DVB-T tuner application are proposed in this thesis.
The proposed RSSI adopts independent dc offset cancellation (DCOC) in its seven limiting amplifiers. Power consumption of each limiting amplifier is reduced more by using feedback-type DCOC than power consumption of the each limiting amplifier by using feedforward-type DCOC. The proposed RSSI has been designed by 0.13um CMOS technology. Simulation results show 77dB voltage gain, 7MHz 3dB-bandwidth, and 70dB linear range with $\plusmn$1dB error at the RSSI output while consuming 1.2mA from a 1.2V supply.
The proposed HRM adopts folded cascode topology. By adopting folded cascode topology, linearity of the HRM is improved and low supply implementation is allowed. Simulation results of the proposed HRM show 37.54~46.74dB 3rd-order harmonic rejection, 3.83~8.62dB voltage gain, 11.71~13.85dB NF, and 1.33~7.33dBm IIP3 in the frequency range 48~862MHz. These features are obtained by consuming 13.5mA current from a 1.2-V supply in a standard 0.13um CMOS technology.
