The various protocol and integrated service can be supported by MPLS network, which can guarantee the Quality of Service(QoS) differing from existing best-effort service of Internet. In addition, the open signaling architecture is required by programmable network, which separate control plane from forwarding plane. It results in independent development with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and device vendors. Therefore, the new contents can be introduced faster standardization and integration of various lower layer devices. In this environment, the fast fault recovery mechanism is needed in order to stabilize the turbulent network, specifically QoS guarantee in open network architecture.
The interface protocol of open signaling architecture is set in place lowest layer, which is programmed. So, if the interface protocol control server processes the fault recovery, it is fast fault recovery. In order to fault recovery, some devices detects the fault, and notifies the urgent situation to control server. It can reduce the fault recovery time that the backup path is established before the link fault occurs. The resource, however, is not allocated previously, which has an advantage of high resource utilization. Well known distributed fault recovery mechanism has flooding message and each LSR has functions for fault recovery. It increases the complexity of LSR. While the centralized controller manages information of all of the controller resources and low scalability, it has an advantage of less fault recovery delay, fast notification time, less control messages than distributed fault recovery mechanism and unnecessary of existing dynamic routing protocol. Especially open network architecture has centralized controlling structure, new fault recovery network architecture and fault recovery algorithm is required.
