process representation is essential for Business Process Reengineering through BPR tool which is based on a business process model. The BPR tools however, do not support reengineering assistant function such as process redesign recommendations, so BPR can be just one time trial. The objective of this research is to design a method to extract knowledge and to assist in BPR.
In this thesis, the definition of BPR knowledge is introduced in an integrated process model called Integrated Business Process Model(IBPM). The BPR knowledge is represented by rules which consist of system attributes and user defined attribute. The two stage approach is suggested: Redesign recommendation is offered with structured rules at first stage. The heuristic rule such as Hammer``s BPR guideline is adapted at second stage. The meaningful attributes and rule example that can be used in the stage 2 are organized. The user can select or modify rules through the rule classification. Rules are classified according to the key factors in reengineering, i.e the process improvement between As-is process and To-be process, such as form re-input rate, decreasing waiting time, and the source of classification such as model relation, inter-model relation and time dimension. The BPR tool can support user to find out candidate activity which should be redesigned with the redesign assistance module through rule classification at stage 2.
