dc.description.abstract | Designing low-cost networks that survive certain failure situations is one of the prime tasks in the telecommunication industry. The impact of a cable failure or central office failure has dramatically increased over the last decade as telecommunications networks have evolved from low capacity mesh networks to high capacity fiber networks. In fiber networks, because of their sparsity, even if only one facility fails then so many individual communication circuits are ceased. So, some healing technologies are had to considered. The Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) is the standard of fiber-optic transmission technology in optical fiber network. There exist three major communication network architectures on SDH. Point-to-point diverse protection, self-healing ring, DCS mesh network are them. On DCS mesh network, one of the major communication network architectures, communication channels are classified into two groups. One is working channel for non-failure situations. The other is spare channel for failure situations. In this thesis we focus on simultaneous optimal assignment of working and spare channels. First, we introduce overall structure of optical fiber network and healing techniques. Next, several algorithms to solve simultaneous assignment of working and spare channels are suggested. Finally, some examples will be given to show numerical results. | eng |
