A new pellet-type thermoluminescent (TL) material (LiF:Mg,Cu,Si) has been developed in this study. The glow curve structures for LiF:Mg,Cu,Si TL detectors with various dopants concentrations were investigated that is essential in order to improve the glow curve structure and sensitivity of the TL detector. The dopants concentrations were varied over the following ranges: Mg (0-0.6 mol%), Cu (0-0.07 mol%) and Si (0-1.2 mol%). The intensity of the high-temperature peak tends to rise slightly with increasing Mg concentration, but decreasing with increasing Cu concentration. It was found that the optimum concentrations of the dopants in the LiF:Mg,Cu,Si TL material are Mg: 0.2 mol%, Cu: 0.05 mol% and Si: 0.9 mol%. It is worth mentioning that dual-step annealing is an effective method for this TL material in order to reduce the high-temperature peak of the glow curve which is the origin of the residual signal as well as to obtain a good glow curve structure and high sensitivity. The glow curve structure and sensitivity of LiF:Mg,Cu,Si TL detector remain stable when annealed in the range from 260℃ to 300℃ for 10 min. This implies that LiF:Mg,Cu,Si is less sensitive than LiF:Mg,Cu,P to annealing at certain temperature. The residual signal of this newly developed TL detector (LiF:Mg,Cu,Si) is significantly lower than GR-200A (Chinese pellet form, LiF:Mg,Cu,P) which is the leading LiF TL detector in recent days and KLT-300 (KAERI LiF TL detector doped with Mg, Cu, Na, Si). However, the sensitivity of this detector is about 70% of GR-200A, but it is still 20 times higher than that of TLD-100 by light integration. The energy response of LiF:Mg,Cu,Si TL detector is very similar with MCP-N (LiF:Mg,Cu,P). The dose response for this TL material (LiF:Mg,Cu,Si) is linear up to 10 Gy and a sub-linear response is observed for higher doses. The reusability of this newly developed TL detector sufficiently satisfied IEC standards. Detection threshold of LiF:Mg,Cu,Si TL material was ...
