A series of new hexa-coordinated ruthenium (II) carbonyl complexes of the type [Ru(CO)(L')(B)] (L' = tetradentate Schiff bases; B = PPh3 or pyridine (py) or piperidine (pip) or morpholine (morph)) have been synthesised by the reactions of [RuHCl(CO)(PPh3)(2)(B)] (B = PPh3 or py or pip or morph) with appropriate Schiff bases having the donor groups (O,N) viz., 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde ethylenediimine (L1) or 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde-1,2-propylenediimine (L2) or 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehydetetramethylenediimine (U) in 1 : 1 molar ratio. Ligands and all the complexes have been characterised on the basis of elemental analyses and spectral (IR, electronic, H-1- and P-31-NMR) data and an octahedral structure has been tentatively proposed for all the complexes. The catalytic activity for alcohol oxidation and antibacterial activities were also carried out for these new complexes.-
