Second order turbulence models which have been developed during the past few years are appraised to be very accurate, and powerful computational models for wide range of turbulent shear flows. Since, however, the second order closure scheme, which requires to solve all components of Reynolds stress tensor as well as the momentum equation simultaneous, is still very expensive for practical engineering calculations, justification of the use of the model must be established between the desired accuracy and computational economy. In order to facilitate this judgement, prediction performances of inexpensive eddy viscosity models have been documented. Staying with the first order models, the so-called two-equation model gives very satisfactory predictions for turbulent flows considered in this study. For efficient computations on various flow geometries, a general computer code for two dimensional boundary layer flows, STAN-5, were used in this study.eng
