Future wireless communication systems are expected to provide multimedia services with guaranteed their quality of service (QoS) requirements. This paper proposes a medium access control (MAC) protocol for Code-Division Multiple Access (CDMA)-based systems. The concept of dual delay bound is proposed to guarantee maximum tolerable packet loss rate (PLR) requirement for each traffic class. Each packet has two timeout values, i.e., the tolerable delay bound and the intolerable delay bound. The transmission of multimedia packets is scheduled to their QoS requirements. The scheduler assigns priorities to the packets, and allocates system resources to each packet according to the order of their own priorities. The PLR requirement of each packet is satisfied as much as possible, and degree of its satisfaction is various depending on its traffic class. Indeed, The PLR for the data packets are minimized. The performance of the proposed protocol is demonstrated by simulation in comparison with other previously proposed protocol. And, we compute the suitable interval between the tolerable delay bound and the intolerable delay bound for data packets by the experimental method.
