The objectives of shape representation is extraction of rugged feature and efficient description that can facilitate high level processing.. As a candidate of a rugged feature, structure of the object is analyzed and flexible decomposition technique based on stick figure finding is proposed. To prevent a disastrous situation which unreasonable decomposition may cause, categorization scheme is adopted. The categorization scheme filters out the shapes that needs not decomposition by integrating the available informations. The result of the analysis is represented in three level abstraction hierarchy for the efficient description of the shape. The description method is closely related to the classification procedures with tree structured data base. For the filexibility of the system, rule based approach is employed.
