The effects of field inhomogeneity and chemical shift in an Interlaced Echo Planar Imaging(IEPI) are considered. To eliminate the geometric distortion and blur caused by field inhomogeneity and chemical shift, a new imaging method incorporating $90\,^\circ\!C$ r.f. time encoding is proposed and studied. By combining this method together with chemical shift selective(CHESS) excitation technique and echo time encoding method, good inhomogeneity effect corrected images and water-fat separated images of human volunteer were obtained.
