dc.description.abstractUltra wideband (UWB) for indoor wireless communications is a promising technology owing to high data rates with low complexity transceivers. Rapid timing synchronization is a major challenge in fully exploiting the benefits of UWB systems. In this thesis, we introduce a new timing synchronization scheme in a UWB energy collection receiver to improve the synchronization performance. The drawback of conventional scheme is that the synchronization point is randomly selected within the uncertainty region by the starting point of the synchronization process. To overcome this ambiguity of synchronization point, our proposed scheme exploits the mean energy profile of channels. The usage of mean energy profile does not require any additional increase in the hardware complexity of the receiver, and thus the low-complexity nature of the receiver can be maintained. To verify the improved performance of our proposed scheme, the simulation has been performed in IEEE 802.15.3a channel environment, and the performance has been investigated in terms of mean squared error (MSE).eng
