dc.description.abstract | In this thesis we demonstrate that the Time Domain THz electromagnetic pulse measurement technique is a novel tool for characterizing liquids, semiconductors, and metals from 10GHz up to 100GHz. To verify our proposed experiment setup we select liquid water as a experiment sample because water is one of the most difficult materials to characterize using previous setups and has clear different characteristics in 10GHz and 100GHz. First Direct measurement of the dielectric properties of water was performed on the water surface, and the relaxation of the orientational polarization of water was observed. This implies the validity of the Time Domain THz electromagnetic pulse measurement technique. In addition, This work gives possibility for the Time Domain THz measurement technique to be applied for medical imaging systems because the THz characterizes liquid water well. Consequently, including the studies on GaAs and Si, it is logical to conclude that the Time Domain THz electromagnetic pulse measurement technique is a very good tool for characterizing liquids, semiconductors, and metals in high frequencies. | eng |
