In this thesis, we investigate a localization scheme based on the downlink reference and synchronization signal and evaluate the error performance of the proposed scheme for the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Long Term Evolution (LTE). The proposed scheme is based on the TDOA method, and exploits the correlation and Chan`s method to estimate the position of the Mobile Station (MS). Since several factors such as the antenna configuration, the system bandwidth, and the deployment of the Base Stations (BSs) and the MS influence on the performance, we evaluate the performance by changing the value of the factors. The performance of the proposed scheme is validated through the simulation results.
