In this dissertation, we have studied resource management scenarios to support multimedia services in code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. We defined resource of a system as transmission power of base station and considered the change of transmission power due to macroscopic diversity effect. First, we analyze forward link capacity with integrated voice /data /multimedia services considering macroscopic diversity. In this analytic model, we define the capacity of a system is peak load that can be supported by the system while maintaining desired service quality. We showed the forward-link capacity considering cdma2000 3x system environment and macrodiversity effect. Numerical results are investigated in the case that the served traffic source combination set, power portion for each finger of RAKE receiver and the combination gain are changed, respectively. Second, we develop an analytic model of soft handoff in CDMA system, using the analyses about system capacity and transmission power which are established in previous part. In this analytic model, we calculate the effect of macroscopic diversity during region change of an MS and consider the handoff problem in environments where mobiles support real-time multimedia services. Performances have been evaluated in view of blocking probability and handoff failure probability. From numerical results of analysis and simulation, we observe system performance due to the change of the combination gain and the proportions among service types. Finally, we present and compare three resource management scenarios for multimedia services in CDMA System. To guarantee real-time property and quality of service (QoS), soft handoff should be provided for multimedia services. However, because soft handoff of a mobile which is serving multimedia services consumes multiple channels simultaneously to support high speed transmission, efficient resource management is required. We have presented three efficient resource managem...
