The use of 3D models is increased drastically, but the quality of the models is not enough to satisfy the user``s requirements. The quality is especially related to the regularity of polygons and vertices. If polygons of a mesh are equilateral, the mesh is said to be high-quality, and if vertices of a mesh have the same degree, the mesh is called as regular mesh. To improve the quality, the 3D models should be post-processed after initial acquisition. This is called remeshing, and the quality of polygons and vertices is improved by high-quality remeshing and regular remeshing, respectively.
We present a new remeshing scheme based on the idea that irregular vertices are appeared along the feature line of the remeshed model with equilateral polygons. Our method preserves the feature line, and makes vertices within the region surrounded by the features regular. Also, the region is filled with equilateral polygons, so we can achieve the high-quality and regular remeshing while preserving the features.
