In multi-hop ad hoc networks, unlikely in the Internet, nodes are suffering from scarce bandwidth and high loss rate, and thus, bandwidth consumed by packets to be dropped eventually is not negligible. In this thesis, we attempt to improve throughput through early regulation of packets to be dropped eventually and adjustment of request to send (RTS) backoff value. We observe that main reasons of scarce bandwidth are RTS packet retransmission and packet drops due to RTS packet retransmission, and the proposed method can improve throughput by reducing the main reasons of scarce bandwidth. Simulation results show that the proposed method can improve end-to-end throughput. We perform simulation for comparison with related work, and the results show that our proposed method is more general than related work in terms of topology and parameter dependency.
