A high level language computer architecture has been proposed as an alternative to the conventional computer architecture and software systems. This thesis proposes such a system, called DEX, which directly executes a high level simulation language, MIMIC. DEX is organized with a mulitple processor configuration consisting of an execution processor and I/O processor. The latter translates MIMIC programs into the internal codes for the former for execution. The results are then returned to the I/O processor for output purpose. Some design considerations are given to obtain hardware which reduces communication overhead between processors and to profit by modifying conventional memory structure. It is estimated that the execution time on the DEX is approximately 50 times as fast as on NOVA 1200 computer alone.
