Decision making by the top management in a business firm becomes more complex as the size of the business grows, the amounts of information increases and the environment changes rapidly. In addition there exist many intangible factors which effect the decision making and it is almost impossible for a manager to consider all these factors by himself. In this thesis, the effect of the systems analysis approach, especially the Industrial Dynamics technique in decision making is studied through an example of a department store. A fictitious department store, LAPUTA, which has similar characteristics to a real one is considered. In order to solve the decision making problems on the inventory control, demand forecasting, price policy and sales promotion by use of the Industrial Dynamics technique, a model of the department store is constructed and experimentations are carried out by using the DYNAMO language on a UNIVAC 1106 computer. The results of the simulation runs show the direction which should be taken by the decision which should be taken by the decision maker against the pressures created by both endogenous and exogenous factors. Also it is realized that Industrial Dynamics techniques is one of the effective tools in decision making of a business firm.
