Tin(IV) ethylenebisdithiocarbamate complexes of the type $R_2Sn(S_2CNHCH_2)_2$ (R:t-Bu, Ph, etc.) have been synthesized by reacting disodium ethylenebisdithiocarbamate with appropriate $R_2SnCl_2$ in ethanol under mild condition and a nitrogen atomosphere. $(t-Bu)_2Sn(S_2CNHCH_2)_2$ and $Ph_2Sn(S_2CNHCH_2)_2$ of the complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, H-NMR, UV-VIS spectroscopy. Molecular weights of the complexes were determined in DMSO by the cryoscopic method, and conductivities of the complexes were measured in $PhNO_2$. The results indicate the complexes to be monomeric and non-electrolytic in the solution. On the basis of results obtained, it is proposed that $R_2Sn(S_2CNHCH_2)_2$ be hexa-coordinate octahedral complexes containing cis-diorganotin(IV) units and s-bonded unsymmetrical-bidentate chelating dithiocarbamate groups.
