In the present research poly(oxyalkylene) diamines were prepared by hydrogenation of poly(oxyalkylene) dicarbonitriles which were obtained from cyanoethylation of poly(oxyalkylene) glycols.
Cyanoethylation reaction was conducted in the presence of anionic ion exchange resin ($OH^{-}$ form). The best result was obtained when the reaction was carried out at the temperature 60 ℃ for 20 hours with anionic ion exchange resin (Dowex 2, 200-400 mesh) 2 wt % of poly(oxyalkylene) glycols.
Poly(oxyalkylene) dicarbonitriles were hydrogenated in a pressure reactor at the temperature 150 ℃ in the presence of nickel catalyst mounted on active carbon.
Hydrogen pressure was in the range of 13-80 atm.
Additions of various amines which were supposed to suppress the formation of secondary or tertiary amines resulted in decyanoethylation.
