This study presents a comprehensive analytical model based on photon counting statistics to derive coincidence time resolution. The derivation process involves constructing a scintillation emission model and computing optical transit time spread based on Monte Carlo simulation. The arrival time distribution is derived through an analytical approach, incorporating effective photon detection efficiency and leading-edge triggering. An optimization process is designed for single photon time resolution derivation, simplifying the iteration process for the arrival time distribution. Experimental comparisons reveal average errors for different photodetector models and scintillator sizes. Sensitivity analysis highlights the impact of parameters like effective photon detection efficiency on coincidence time resolution, emphasizing its significance at low trigger levels. An inversion phenomenon at low triggering levels and wavelength-dependency of single photon time resolution contribute to distinctions between the analytical model and experimental data. Future research considerations involve modifying the model to account for parameter errors and minimizing thermal noise in coincidence time resolution experiments through stricter temperature control. In conclusion, this study developed a comprehensive analytical model for coincidence time resolution derivation, demonstrating its applicability in estimating the single photon time resolution of photodetector systems within an approximate 10% error range.
