The rapid evolution of space activities, particularly in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), underscores the significance of sounding rockets in bridging the gap to future launch vehicle development and providing a strategic access to space. Initially, this study presents a comprehensive examination of the conceptual design of a sounding rocket, detailing its system engineering process, performance parameters, and the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) model to ensure that the needs of the stakeholders are reflected appropriately. It then introduces a methodology for optimal staging and trajectory simulation, emphasizing the coupling between the two modules. Factors influencing suborbital launch site selection, ranging from location and climate to compliance with regulations and nature conservation, are explored. Following the design procedure elucidation, the discourse delves into the intricacies of the UAE's space industry through a practical case study, emphasizing its national space strategy, program, and the pivotal role of research and development (R&D) investments. This case study highlights the mission requirements, design parameters, and initial cost estimations within the context of the UAE. Through a holistic system engineering approach, this thesis underscores the potential of the UAE in pioneering such a program, emphasizing the importance of sound design, strategic planning, and cost-effective methodologies in the realm of sounding rockets.
