In this paper, a novel control technique at four-switch buck-boost converter for 5G network equipment is proposed. With the recent trend of miniaturization of 5G network telecom equipment, high power density of power supply in telecom equipment is required. However, when applied to conventional control technique, dynamic characteristic is slow and system control stability decreases due to the influence of RHP (right half-plane) zero present in the converter transfer function. Therefore, a large output capacitance is required to satisfy the transient output voltage ripple condition, which increases the volume of power supply unit at the telecom equipment, causing it difficult to increase power density. The proposed control technique 1 eliminates the RHP zero in the transfer function. The proposed control technique 2 adjusts the four switch duty ratios to fix the RHP zero location that does not affect the compensator bandwidth present in the transfer function. Accordingly, it is possible to achieve the fast dynamics of the converter and increase the power density of power supply unit at the 5G network telecom equipment. The validity of the proposed circuit was verified with a prototype converter designed with 36-72 V input and 48 V/500 W output.
