Recently our group developed palladium-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization reaction with (2-halobenzyl)pyrroles and their phenyl derivatives to afford condensed hetero- or carbocycles repectively via tandom activation of benzyl halides and aromatic C-H bond. It is believed that the reaction initiated by the action of palladium catalyst to form an oxidative addition intermediate of benzyl halide, and subsequent proceeds via a base-assisted aromatic C-H bond activation followed by the final reductive elimination to give a desired product.
