For the past several decades, in order to obtain the technology that can efficiently convert and store renewable energy sources, research and development has been actively conducted on secondary battery systems. Lithium-sulfur batteries, one of the promised next-generation secondary battery systems, have a high energy density that can be applied to medium- and large-scale energy storage devices. In addition, since sulfur is environmentally benign and has very abundant resources, it is ideal for next-generation secondary batteries and has a potential to surpass the current commercialized LIB system. In this Ph.D. dissertation, unveiling the intermediate chemical reaction of sulfur with polymer and metal oxides is major subject to study. Moreover, I have researched interaction between synthesized sulfur composites and lithium ion to reveal its electrochemical mechanisms.
