Blood vessels spread to all organs and tissues in our body, so vascular diseases such as arteriosclerosis or kidney disease often have serious consequences. Existing experimental in vitro models do not reflect the microenvironment of vascular disease, and animal models have differences in human disease environments due to genetic differences. It is expected that microphysiological systems or microfluidic device-based biomimetic models can supplement and solve these problems. Therefore, it is necessary to design vascular and vascular disease models using microphysiological systems. This dissertation describes the engineering of multi-scale blood vessels and their disease models using microphysiological systems. Herein, a microphysiological system-based lipopolysaccharide-induced vascular inflammation model, an outer blood retinal barrier-choriocapillris model with diabetic retinopathy, and an artery model with diabetes mellitus-induced arterial dysfunction were presented.
