Insect eyes have superior visual functions for advanced multi-functional imaging applications. Here we report various microfabrication methods for microlens arrays and an ultrathin arrayed camera for high contrast and high-resolution multifunctional imaging, inspired by the vision system of Xenos peckii. Like insect's multifunctional vision, this ultrathin array camera allows large field-of-view, 3D imaging, high speed imaging, microscopic imaging, and multispectral imaging. This work also includes recent achievements on assorted biomedical applications.
