With the popularization of information appliances, touch screens have become the most widely used user interface. On the other hand, the touch screen consists of a hard surface, limiting the user experience with the haptic modalities. To overcome the limitation, previous studies have proposed a compliance illusion that makes a hard surface feel compliant by exploiting vibrotactile feedback. However, the design parameters of the compliance feedback should be determined to apply the techniques in an actual product. This paper investigates the effect of the waveform, delay, and vibration direction on compliance illusion. Also, we propose the dF/dt method, which significantly reduces bumpy and buzzing sensations while creating the compliance illusion effectively.
