In this paper, I study how the adoption of a smart speaker which can activate a music streaming application affects music streaming mobile application usage. Using a unique panel data set, adoption of a smart speaker leads to increases in the quantity and probability of mobile music application usage incidence. I used the difference-in-difference technique to analyze a unique panel data set that comprises information on of individuals’ usage histories across various mobile. The results indicate that the adoption of an adoption of a smart speaker is positively associated with quantity and probability of mobile music application usage incidence. On the basis of our findings, I drew implications for the ecosystem of mobile application after the smart device is adopted. Also, I find that the mobile application platform should not just abandon the existed platform and make them incumbent.
